The Church is the worship loop that produces Faith and prayer buffs, and it is also tightly linked to the daily Energy meter and the Insanity mechanic that lowers that cap.

How attendance is set
Attendance at each sermon is capped by the lower of Church quality and available Likes. Improving only one is not enough. Likes are replenished through quests, town orders, and eligible trades, and a Green Scroll (obtained through Linda) raises Likes capacity. Sermons only happen on the Wrath-day, day 6 of the 6-day week. The interface shows the current success chance, and a more powerful sermon requires more attendees — the 67% number used in the tutorial is an example for that sermon, not a permanent rate.
Faith sinks
The currency sermons produce is Faith, which has concrete sinks. Herbert's "Fighting Spirit Required" hand-in needs 3 Faith. Charging Hypno devices costs 1 Faith each. Zombie collars and resurrection also draw on Faith. Plan Faith across Herbert, Gunter's resurrection needs, and Hypno devices rather than draining it on one branch.
Zombie-count side effect
Once Gunter's workers arrive, "Congregation Trouble" starts reducing attendance based on your zombie workforce — completing the charged-device request and test ceremony unlocks the PR Machine, which sets the weekly zombie allowance. Hypno devices and Newspapers (from Gunter and the Workbench respectively) reduce the penalty once mass production begins. The Church does not generate gold directly — profit comes indirectly through Nun reputation, Faith for other systems, and the Likes economy.
Energy meter — how it works
Energy is consumed by crafting, gathering, and fighting, and it is restored through food, drinks, potions, and sleep. The two systems are linked but distinct: Refilling current energy (food / potions) does not fix a reduced maximum. Insanity lowers your maximum energy cap — you must target Insanity directly with the right consumables or rest method to recover capacity.
Insanity meter — how it works
Insanity is generated by certain in-game actions and by performing any action while you are already tired, so chasing tasks in a tired state compounds the problem. The recommended fix is tired sleep — sleeping while in the tired state lowers Insanity. Consumables designed for Insanity reduction also work.
