The Factory is an underground automation area tied to the Grand Inquisitor's base where you turn raw gathered resources into crate-form supply items, construction materials, and industrial products that feed Town rebuilding orders. Two routes lead in: clear basement access first from the main base, or take the forest route with explosives and the mine.

More context

Progress Jack's questline and clear basement access to the underground area. Take control of the northern town square — that milestone unlocks the factory construction technologies in the tech tree. Build the first Zombie Carousel and Stockpiles to start producing power and accepting raw input.

Unlocking the Factory

  1. Clear basement access

Progress Jack's questline and clear basement access to the underground area.

  2. Take the northern square

Take control of the northern town square — that milestone unlocks the factory construction technologies in the tech tree.

  3. Build Carousel and Stockpiles

Build the first Zombie Carousel and Stockpiles to start producing power and accepting raw input.

Factory system overview

Power

Zombie Carousels

At the sides produce power. A Carousel costs 6 Bronze Gears + 6 Iron Details + 4 Wooden Beams and holds up to 4 zombies; weaker undead are fine because no tools or perks are needed to staff it. The Belt Master perk boosts each zombie's output to 10.

Input

Stockpiles

At the southern end accept Marble, Iron Ore, Coal, Clay, Sand, Stone, and Logs and mirror the above-ground construction yard.

Production

Production workstations

Two inputs and one output: Assembly Bench, Smithy, and Kitchen, each with tier II upgrades. Workers must hold tools that match the required crafting stat.

Logistics

Conveyor Belts, Splitters, Chests

Move and buffer items. Conveyor Chests are omnidirectional and interface with belts.

Output

Supply Stations

Collect the finished crate outputs. Each Supply Station holds only one crate, so chain it to a Conveyor Belt and to a Zombie Supply Porter on a nearby bench.

Delivery

Porter Stations

And Zombie Supply Porters carry crates to Supply Pallets and onward to the warehouse basement.

Garden

Lifting Crane + Garden Storage

Bring crops down from the garden so the Kitchen and Assembly Bench can process Flax sewing and other lines.

Layout that minimizes wasted power

Repair each floor section before building anything on it, and use dynamite to demolish select walls to open cleaner corridors. Centralize the layout around the Carousels because every belt, chest, and workstation draws from the shared pool shown at the top of the screen. Always orient Conveyor Belts so the arrow points toward the next meaningful step. Corners need a forward belt pushing onto a sideways one. Use Conveyor Chests as buffers — two chests linked directly to a workstation's inputs can substitute for a full belt layout and usually beat a pure splitter. Underground Conveyors pass beneath other production components to connect distant lines without snaking across the floor, which keeps the power draw down. Place Stockpiles at the southern end so deliveries drop in cleanly, put Supply Stations at the workstation outputs that yield crates, and run Porter Stations in the cleared corridor from the Factory past the morgue through the fountain to the warehouse basement in town. Build a Supply Pallet just outside the Factory, filter porters to prioritize Town Orders, and remember that mis-placed belts can be deleted for a clean rebuild if materials are recovered first; otherwise the tile stays blocked.

Automation chain — raw inputs to Town deliveries

The full delivery chain is: workstation produces the crate → Supply Station stores it → Zombie Supply Porter on a nearby bench hauls it to a Supply Pallet just outside the Factory → Porter Stations in the corridor (past the morgue, through the fountain) carry it to the warehouse basement in town → the warehouse converts delivered items into gratitude. Town contracts refresh weekly, and some deliveries count toward weekly requests even before specific jobs are unlocked. Non-order deliveries yield money every Pride Day.

Raw material gathering outposts

Every gathering site needs a Porter Station with a zombie to deliver to the Factory's southern Stockpiles. Sawmill in the forest: a Lumberjack Stand plus an axe zombie produces Logs. Mines north of the sawmill yield Iron Ore and Coal. Quarries need a Zombie Supplier Station plus a zombie to move stone into chests. Sand and clay pits to the west of the quarries use the same supplier-station method. Long crafting queues such as 1000 ingots can be set, but there is no infinite-queue option, so check the Tech Tree to find recipes.
