Prayers run through the Church worship loop. To unlock the Church, complete Jack's "Jack in a Boat" quest chain and then "Holy Moly!" to meet the Nun (Sister Agatha) at the Village Tavern. Prayers are written at a Writing Desk from recipes unlocked through the Theology technology tree, and written prayers are reusable inventory items rather than consumed on use.
More context
The Basic Prayer is the only one not written at a desk — Agatha hands it to you when you finish Holy Moly!. The Prayer for the Old God is story-locked and given directly by the Old God during his questline.

How sermons execute
Sermons only fire on Wrath Day (day 6 of the 6-day week). Attendance equals min(Likes available, Church quality), each attendee spends 1 Like, and success rate is attendees divided by the prayer's required-attendees number (capped at 100%). A successful sermon pays base faith + base copper + a buff; a failed sermon pays only the base reward. Church quality is raised by clearing debris and adding interior furniture (each interior bench costs 2 Wood Planks + 6 Bronze Nails for 6 slots), plus organ / choir zombie workers (Choir +1 base per zombie, +1 extra per rank of Musician perk; Organ +5 base +1 per worker).
Faith income
Faith is also earned from Herbert's "Fighting Spirit Required" hand-in (costs 3 Faith to pay), Hypno-device charging (1 Faith per charge), zombie collars and resurrection, completing town orders, thumbs-up gifts, Gratitude scrolls (+5 each), and post-repair Homobonus trades at 10 Faith = 5 Silver.

God's Fury (Prayer of Battle)
Gravekeeper sword +2 damage per hit; gravekeeper bow, zombie-soldier bow, and upgraded mercenary bow +3 damage; spear, arrow tower, and base mercenary weapon get no bonus.
God of Nature (Prayer of Harvest)
Garden beds and grape trellises grow 20 seconds faster per stage (2 min → 1:40).
God of the Storms (Prayer for Storms)
Lets you use the resurrection device any day, unlimited times, for the buff's duration.
God of the Dead (Prayer for Repose)
Delivered corpses gain one quality tier.
God of the Craftsmen (Prayer for Excellence)
+1 to all five masteries: building, smithing, farming, writing, anatomy.
God of Delusions (Hypno Prayer)
Instantly removes the "Excessive Zombies" debuff that triggers when your zombie workforce exceeds the congregation cap, which otherwise drains sermon income across all prayer tiers.
