Zombies in Graveyard Keeper 2 are undead labor units that handle crafting, hauling, farming, and combat — but they do nothing without proper setup. The same zombie worker that hauls stone in the morning can be re-equipped and fielded into battle at the Barracks.

More context

Progress the story far enough to unlock the resurrection chain. Build a Resurrection Table in a room. Buy Reanimation Liquid from the Astrologer (Gunter). Craft a Zombie Collar at the Jewelry Table. Place a complete body with no missing parts on the table, add the liquid and the collar, then wait for a stormy green day with lightning over the resurrection area and pull the lever — only one zombie per day because of electricity limits. Collar tiers set the red-skull cap: Bronze up to 5, Golden up to 10, and the top tier up to 99.

Equipping and managing workers

Higher-tier tools grant more mastery. Iron tools beat bronze. Perks bought with experience give permanent bonuses. Standing in front of a running machine grants small XP. A crafting-station zombie only operates its machine. A separate Zombie Supplier Station (unlocked by the Zombie Assistant technology) is needed to move materials in and finished items out. A supplier can also drain endless resource deposits placed nearby. Body quality matters: only red skulls count toward the zombie's quality and determine available perk points and the required collar tier. Change parts at the autopsy table (costs stamina and sanity) and tweak red-skull totals at the embalming table once golden collars unlock.

Workforce management tips

Watch the zombie limit: too many zombies reduces sermon effectiveness. Gunter sells Hypno devices (charged at the scriptorium) and Newspapers (printed at the workbench) to reduce the penalty once mass production begins. Match the workforce to the jobs you can supply. Start with a small crew, let workers earn points, then buy the mastery and perks they need for their next assignment.

Training with mastery and perks

Each zombie worker earns its own colored technology points from eligible crafting jobs (and red points from winning battles since update 1.007). Points are stored separately from the Keeper's own resources. Let a worker finish batches, then open that zombie's Character and Perks panels to spend its points. A mastery increase and a named perk are separate purchases, and perks need a free red-skull slot.

Leading a zombie army into battle

  1. Place each zombie on a manacle

Place each zombie on a manacle.

  2. Equip weapons and armor

Equip weapons and armor (pikes, bows, etc., not work tools).

  3. Arm the squad before each fight

Because combat is set-piece, you have time to arm the squad before each fight.

  4. Use lower-quality bodies as troops

Low red-skull counts do not noticeably hurt combat performance, so you can field lower-quality bodies as troops.

Common pitfalls

Earning points does not auto-buy mastery or perks. Perks need a free red-skull slot. If a worker cannot start a job, check mastery, equipment, and recipe access before queuing more batches.
